My Top Favorite Photos of 2014

December 29, 2014 by Patricia Davidson

It is always hard to select my top ten favorite photos each year. Last year I participated in Jim Goldstein’s Blog Project for submitting your best photos from the year. It’s so great that Jim creates this list each year. I always find new and inspiring photographers to follow from his annual post.

Like last year, my husband and I chose not to travel as much. We have been saving money for some big goals we have coming in the new year. I can’t wait to share that with you soon!

I wish you all a very prosperous and Happy New Year!

1. Classic HawthorneWe often travel to Portland, Oregon because we have two daughters living there.  It’s a special place and we love it there!

2. Golden Glow in Bandon
I spent a lot of time down in Bandon whenever I could during the year.  I was commissioned by an art client for some specific location shots for his Bandon beach home. The client ended up purchasing four custom sized metal prints.  Two were about 83″ in width.  It was a great learning experience on how to upsize prints which I hope to share with you in a post soon.

3. Beaver Creek Falls
During the spring we traveled to several Oregon Coast Range waterfalls only to be disappointed with the water levels. Many were just dribbles due to a low year in rainfall.  I did manage to get a few photos I loved from the Sweet Creek Trail.  It’s always a great place to go locally for the variety of waterfalls there.

4. Rain Clouds at the Painted Hills
This year we made the trip to the Painted Hills for the first time ever. I had four days there and just loved exploring the area for future trips. Though there was great light and color while there, it never seemed to be in the right direction.  I did come away with a few photos I liked but will have to return!

5. Proxy Fall
This beautiful waterfall was on my list of places to go for awhile.  It’s located along the McKenzie Pass Highway in Lane County, Oregon. When other waterfalls were low due to lack of rainfall this year, Proxy Falls was still photo worthy.

5. Broken Top at Sunset
We traveled to Bend, Oregon in the summer because we have another daughter living there. I love that area as there is so much to see and do. Though our time there was short, I managed to come away with several photos as we had incredible light! I also scouted new locations for next year.  Read my post on my trip to Central Oregon…

7. Emerald Reflections
I traveled to the Columbia River Gorge to photograph waterfalls but the weather was not cooperating the whole time I was there. It was sunny and hot! So I checked the weather and saw that it was cloudy and raining on the Washington side. This is a view of the unique wooden bridge at Moulton Falls Regional Park on the Lewis River in Washington.

8. Thor’s Well
Always exciting to visit Thor’s Well. It’s located within the Cape Perpetual Viewing Area near Yachats, Oregon.

9. Yaquina Bay Bridge
I enjoyed a great late fall campout in Newport, Oregon in our new RV. Though it was a test run after getting a leak fixed on a slide, I enjoyed getting out and taking some pictures.  This bridge shot was my favorite.

10. Rockin’ the Coastline
What would late fall and winter be like without storm chasing!  I always enjoy going out to Shore Acres State Park during high surf advisories. It never gets old!

    Pat
I’m always amazed by the beauty in your work.
Yachats holds a special place in my heart, so I would have to say Thor’s Well is my favorite, but you do such a great job capturing the roar of Shore Acres. They are all great!
Looking forward to seeing your work in 2015
    Happy New Year

A beautiful set of images, Patricia. I like the way you mix up the genre with the city/nightscapes. With them I like Broken Top and the Coastline best. Hope you have another great photographic year in 2015.
